Quote of the day

Always remember and don't ever forget, my darling poppets: Men of science walked on the moon; men of faith stole airplanes and flew them into buildings.

- Muffy Bolding

Oh, and speaking of men of faith, George Rekers, NARTH board member, Baptist minister, prominent anti-gay activist, co-founder of the virulently anti-gay Family Research Council and expert witness against gay adoption in Florida, was caught taking a 10-day European vacation with a male prostitute from Miami. For real.

Hi D-Train,

Glad as always to provide a little comic relief from an otherwise dreary news cycle.

Yeah, but Rekers only hired him (from a website festooned with images of nearly-naked men) to carry his luggage.

Hi Scott,

Yeah. That's right. Because it's easier to pay a prostitute $10,000 to carry your luggage than to tip a few airport and hotel porters $2 per bag. :-)

Another hypocrite...

Hi Mr. Curie,

The script for this is just too good.

Hope you're well.

Hi Joned,

I don't see Rekers as an isolated case. He is (perhaps was) one of the few credentialed academics that side with the anti-gay political machine. (Although the school where he taught, the University of South Carolina, recently erased all mention of him from their Web page.)

Rekers made hundreds of thousands of dollars from his efforts to make life more difficult for gay people and their children. He spread harmful lies using pseudoscience and sham, front organizations (like the official-sounding "American College of Pediatricians", which is an ideologically motivated advocacy group solely devoted to anti-gay propaganda).

It's certainly true that he's a hypocrite. It's also true that he's a cog in a large and very corrupt machine.
